Tools Required to measure an Aboveground pool

  • Minimum of 2 People – Ideally 3 People (which allows someone to record measurements while the others work the tapes)
  • 1 – 50 Foot Tape Measure
  • Pool Fits Above Ground Round Measurement Sheet
  • Black Ink Pen

How to Measure- Above Ground Round Pool

  • The Diameter of a Round Pool is the size of the pool and the pool liner required.
  • The Diameter is the measurement across the pool from side to side that goes through the very center of the pool.
    • The easiest way to determine if the tape measure is going through the center of the pool is ensure that you are measuring the ‘widest width’ of the pool.  This is best accomplished by taking several measurements until you can confirm several times that the measurement is in fact the widest possible measurement.
  • The best ‘cross check’ that the Diameter measurement is correct is to measure the perimeter of the pool.  This can be done by measuring the distance of the pool wall between all the posts and adding the distance of the wall behind the posts as follows:
  • Example: 24′ Round
    • Distance between posts = 50.5″ x 16 sections = 808″
    • Distance behind posts = 6″ x 16 posts = 96″
    • Total Wall Length = 904″ / 12″ = 75′-4″ or 75.33 Feet
    • Cross Check 75.33 / 3.1416 = 23.98′ or 24′ Diameter

How to Measure- Above Ground Oval Pool

  • The Length and Width of an Oval Pool are the size of the pool and the pool liner required.
  • The Length is the measurement between the two round ends of the pool through the very center of the pool.
    • The easiest way to determine if the tape measure is going through the center of the pool is ensure that you are measuring the ‘longest length’ of the pool.  This is best accomplished by taking several measurements until you can confirm several times that the measurement is in fact the longest possible measurement.
  • The Width is the measurement between the two straight walls of the pool
    • This measurement should be taken at the beginning and end of the straight wall of the pool and should be the same measurement in both locations.  If this measurement varies by an inch or two it will have no affect on the fit of the pool liner.

How to Measure- Above Ground Overlap or Beaded Attachment

Overlap Style Liner Attachment

Overlap Aboveground Liners are manufactured to accommodate all Wall Heights Up to 54″, so if you pool has a 54″ Wall Height or less a Standard Aboveground Liner will fit.  If your pool has a Wall Height greater than 54″ then you will require an ‘Expandable Liner’ and you will need to measure and record your Pool Wall Height.

OVERLAP

Beaded Style Liner Attachment

Beaded Aboveground Liners are manufactured for 3 specific Wall Heights:

  • 48″ Wall Height
  • 52″ Wall Height
  • 54″ Wall Height

Regardless of the Bead Type, in order to identify the right Aboveground liner for your pool you must accurately measure the Pool Wall Height. (see below)

Tip:  Always measure from the very top of the pool wall (up underneath the Top Rail) to the very bottom of the pool wall (where it slips into the bottom track).

Tip:  Actual Measurements can be up 1/2″ less, as follows:

      • 48″ = 48″ to  47-1/2″
      • 52″ = 52″ to  51-1/2″
      • 54″ = 54″ to  53-1/2″
