Before Removing Your Safety Cover

After a long winter, job #1 is removing the pool cover from your pool. Here are the steps you’ll want to follow:

  1. Remove any larger debris such as sticks, branches and leaves.
  2. For solid covers use a cover pump, pump any excess water from on-top of your pool cover. – Tip: Removing water from the top of your pool cover can make it appear that the pool water underneath the cover is dropping. This is due to ‘displacement’ and is no reason for concern. If you are removing a significant amount of water from ontop of your cover, add water to the pool underneath the cover at the same time. (solid covers only)
  3. For mesh covers the water level in the pool may have risen to a level where you can see water on above the cover. If this is the case, simply remove 1 or two of the cover strap springs from the anchors. Pump down the water level inside the pool until the cover fully above the pool water. – Tip: It may also be helpful to tighten the straps of the cover if it has ‘sagged’ in some areas over the winter
  4. Allow the cover to naturally dry in the sun for a short while. Use a leaf blower to blow off any remaining debris, leaves or lose dirt.- Tip: Larger debris, such as small branches, twigs and similar items should be removed manually, taking care not to damge the cover.

Safety Pool Cover Removal

  1. Using a broom or leaf blower clear the deck surrounding the pool
  2. Using the Spring Installation Tool remove the springs from the anchors at one end of the pool
  3. Using the Spring Installation Tool remove the springs from the remaining achors on each side of the pool and on the opposing end of the pool
  4. Tighten down the anchors with the 1/4″ hex key tool as you go
  5. Flip the springs and straps ontop of the cover before fan folding
  6. With a person on either end of the cover, fan-fold the cover, to an approximate 3′ width
  7. Once fan folding is complete, fold the cover in from each end and repeat until the cover is approximatly a 3’x3′ square

Cleaning Your Pool Safety Cover

  1. Clear off an area of your driveway or yard, which ever is large enough. The driveway is preferable once clear of debris. Tip: Ensure there are no substances on the driveway, such as oil or similar that might transfer onto or damage the cover.
  2. Using a garden hose, a pool maintenance brush and some light liquid detergent gently clean, thoroughly rinse and allow the cover to dry. Tip: Clean the top of the cover first. Allow it to dry completely before flipping the cover to expose the bottom of the cover
  3. Repeat the cleaning as above and allow the bottom of the cover to dry completely.

Folding & Storing Your Pool Safety Cover

  • Once the cover is complete dry – Flip the springs and straps ontop of the cover before fan folding
  • Using two people fan fold the cover into 3′ width
  • Again with two people fold the long 3′ width into a 3’x3′ square
  • Place the Safety Cover in the storage bag supplied with the cover
  • Store the cover in a clean and dry area, preferably off the ground, and in an area free of mice and rodents. Tip: Mice and small rodents will find your cover a cozy place to live and likely munch on your cover while building their home. Storing your cover away from these pesky guys is an ‘ounce of prevention’.
